hi all.

i have just finished a working version (at least here on linux) of the
font objects which support rendering of non-ascii (and non-local!)
characters.
this basically allows each character found in a ttf-file to be rendered
(at least up to character#65535), e.g. cyrillic, IPA, chinese,...

while doing so i have finally kicked out GLTT support.
since this has been there only for legacy reasons, i don't think that
this will break anything.
however, before i check it in i would like to know whether there are any
objections.
