most likely it is a bug in Gem (or - unlikely - one of ist auxiliary libraries).<br>
most likely you will not be able to "configure" this from within Pd.<br>

a workaround for now, _might_ be to use [pix_buffer] to read the images).<br>
i say "might" because this object might trigger the same bug as well.<div class="im"><br>
