I was working on a Pd port of Christian Klippels cvbox object that is used to read data from his 'cvbox' analogue input controller he mentioned in one of his posts. In case someone is interested, just let me know... (I couldn't test it yet due to the lack of the box) As a by-product I realised how to access the parrallel port (and any other ports) directly under WinNT/2000/XP. I've added that to the 'lp' object from zexy which can be used to send bytes out of the parrallel port. Under Win9x/Me it should work as-is, under WinNT/2000/XP a special kernel driver is needed that is included in the archive. See the readme for details. I think it's a big enough improvement to be worth the trouble... I still have to get ASIO up and running multi-channel (right now it exits with no error message when you ask for -asio -channels 8 (for example). However, I do at last have asio running on one machine here, so there's a chance I can debug this at last... cheers Miller From czaja@chopin.edu.pl Tue May 28 12:20:12 2002 Received: from (suita.chopin.edu.pl) [195.187.82.250] by web.iemnet with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 17Ce5F-0001t1-00; Tue, 28 May 2002 12:20:06 +0200 Received: from chopin.edu.pl (krzYszcz@dynamic-6.chopin.edu.pl [195.187.82.216]) (authenticated) by suita.chopin.edu.pl (8.11.6/0.0.0) with ESMTP id g4SARue28660; Tue, 28 May 2002 12:27:56 +0200 Message-ID: <3CF35ADE.2020007@chopin.edu.pl> Date: Tue, 28 May 2002 12:24:30 +0200 From: Krzysztof Czaja User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.8) Gecko/20020214 X-Accept-Language: pl, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: msp@ucsd.edu CC: pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at Subject: Re: [PD-announce] pd 0.35 test 24 released (sources, plus Win compiled) References: <20020527153808.A2008664@man104-1.ucsd.edu> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-milter (http://amavis.org/) X-Scanner: exiscan *17Ce5F-0001t1-00*5jDQY5WtG2M* (IEM Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics Graz Austria) Sender: pd-announce-admin@iem.kug.ac.at Errors-To: pd-announce-admin@iem.kug.ac.at X-BeenThere: pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.9 Precedence: bulk List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: Announcements for PureData List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: hi Miller, object boxes in test24 appear to show up squeezed by 2 pixels. In font sizes 8, 10, and 12, the amount of space between the top border and tall lower case letters or digits is one pixel only, and is completely filled with any inlet that happens to be drawn over them. The same goes for number boxes -- both old-style ones, and `my_numboxes' (but nbx looks cleaner, because the text is pushed to the right, away from the inlet). With `symbol gatoms' low margin is affected as well (in all font sizes except 36), which is not the case with object boxes. But really, this might be due to my faulty setup (debian woody, out-of-the-box -- if there is such a thing), and anyway, I do not mind looking at any kind of object box height troubles... unlike object box width troubles.... Btw, arrays are now fully dollar-aware, which is great news. Also the ability to edit arguments of graphed-on-parent abstractions, without clearing graph-on-parent flag first, is very nice! You can now select input and output audio device numbers in Mac OSX and ASIO; also -listdev should now work. The bug about typing into "pd foo" boxes is fixed, I added an "event number" for Krzystof, and I fixed a few bugs about boxes changing size. The only other thing I want to try to do before turning (at last) to documenting all these changes is to fix "graph on parent" abstractions to deal somehow with possible collisions when called from a patch with a different font size. I'm uncertain but I think I should just force the text to have the contained patch's font size (the alternative is to change the size of the box.) cheers Miller From x@meta.lo-res.org Mon Jun 10 14:16:03 2002 Received: from (meta.lo-res.org) [195.58.189.92] (slghcx) by web.iemnet with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 17HO5T-0007dz-00; Mon, 10 Jun 2002 14:15:56 +0200 Received: from meta.lo-res.org (jajcho@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by meta.lo-res.org (8.12.3/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g5ACJPLq053761 for ; Mon, 10 Jun 2002 14:19:25 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from x@meta.lo-res.org) Received: (from x@localhost) by meta.lo-res.org (8.12.3/8.12.3/Submit) id g5ACI9w3053752 for pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at; Mon, 10 Jun 2002 14:18:09 +0200 (CEST) From: CK Message-Id: <200206101218.g5ACI9w3053752@meta.lo-res.org> To: pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 14:18:09 +0200 (CEST) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.5 PL5] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Scanner: exiscan *17HO5T-0007dz-00*glyfDXzSo8w* (IEM Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics Graz Austria) Subject: [PD-announce] [update] jass-0.0.4a-p2 Sender: pd-announce-admin@iem.kug.ac.at Errors-To: pd-announce-admin@iem.kug.ac.at X-BeenThere: pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.9 Precedence: bulk List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: Announcements for PureData List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: hi, http://test.pilot.fm/pd/patches/jass/ now has an updated version of the jass sequencer. It's available in version 0.1 for linux at http://footils.org/syncgrain-0.1.tgz _ _____SyncGrain implements synchronous granular synthesis. The source sound for the grains is obtained by reading a function table containing the samples of the source waveform. The grain generator has full control of frequency (grains/sec), overall amplitude, grain pitch (a sampling increment) and grain size (in millisecs for PD). An extra parameter is the grain pointer speed (or rate), which controls which position the generator will start reading samples in the table for each successive grain. It is measured in fractions of grain size, so a value of 1 will make each successive grain read from where the previous grain should finish. A value of 0.5 will make the next grain start at the midway position from the previous grain start and finish, etc. A value of 0 will make the generator read always from the start of the table. This control gives extra flexibility for creating timescale modifications in the resynthesis. [Above text is based on the SyncGrain dokumentation in the SndObj library by Dr Victor Lazzarini.] _ ____Requirements__ _ A binary for Linux is included. To run it, you need the SndObject-Library by Dr Victor Lazzarini. syncgrain~ is a direct port of the SndObject SyncGrain in this library. You can download SndObj for Linux, W32 and IRIX at: http://www.may.ie/academic/music/musictec/SndObj/main.html To build syncgrain~ you also need flext by Thomas Grill in version 0.2.3, although 0.2.2 should compile as well. The flext-URL is http://www.parasitaere-kapazitaeten.net/Pd/ext/ You might want to edit the makefile first, if you use another compiler than g++-3.0. but the 3.x branch of g++ is highly recommended for this external and syncgrain is untested with anything except g++-3.0 and Linux. _ ____Bugs__ _ _ Specifying a nonexistant file to load as object argument will crash PD. _ Only works at PD's default blocksize of 64. Don't use block~ in a subpatch with syngrain~! _ probably more... _ ____License__ _ GPL, see license.txt. _ ____Authors__ _ This pd external was written by me, Frank Barknecht . Thanks go out to Victor Lazzarini for writing SndObj and for his great help and patience with my questions, and the same applies to flext-author Thomas Grill. ciao, -- Frank Barknecht _ ______footils.org__ From jusu@wurlitzer.hut.fi Tue Jun 18 19:52:45 2002 Received: from (wurlitzer.hut.fi) [130.233.32.17] (root) by web.iemnet with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 17KN9j-0005Ty-00; Tue, 18 Jun 2002 19:52:40 +0200 Received: from localhost (jusu@localhost) by wurlitzer.hut.fi (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id UAA10112; Tue, 18 Jun 2002 20:59:49 +0300 Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 20:59:49 +0300 (EEST) From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Juha_Vehvil=E4inen?= To: pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at cc: framestein@yahoogroups.com Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-Scanner: exiscan *17KN9j-0005Ty-00*qHWaen66ErY* (IEM Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics Graz Austria) Subject: [PD-announce] [announce][Framestein] 0.30 Sender: pd-announce-admin@iem.kug.ac.at Errors-To: pd-announce-admin@iem.kug.ac.at X-BeenThere: pd-announce@iem.kug.ac.at X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.9 Precedence: bulk List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: Announcements for PureData List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: Hi all, Framestein 0.30 is out, with only minor changes this time: 0.30 - vframe supports plugin parameters - doubleclicking the framestein-logo equals "reset" - fs.frame "stayontop" OFF by default - got rid of the console, "Show debug" in menu instead (right-click the framestein-logo) - l2s from zexy included in Patches-dir, zexy no longer needed - disconnecting pd from fs will cause a reset http://framestein.org have fun! Regards,
Dave Sabine

Hello all,

I've been at it again.

I've completed some new documents for PD's TIME objects.  In my last announcement I gave a link to my documentation of PD's GLUE objects -- well the SAME link will now have newly revised reference files for:

GLUE objects
bang, float, symbol, int, send, receive, select, route, pack, unpack, trigger, spigot, moses, until, print, makefilename, change, swap, value

and TIME objects
delay, metro, line, timer, cputime, realtime, pipe

You'll find new examples, new explanations, and probably a lot of typos!

I'd like to thank Krzysztof Czaja, Olaf Matthes for their help understanding [line].

Looking at the archives, I noticed there has been some questions about expr. I have a new version of expr/expr~/fexpr~ (0.4test3) with many changes. I would appreciate hearing from anybody trying it before passing it to Miller to be integrated in the full release. I hope this release would address some of the raised concerns. I have not compiled this version for NT yet, and I suspect that it will not compile, specially due to the introduction of many new math functions. If you try it, let me know how it goes. You can see the documentation and download the new version at: http:/www.crca.ucsd.edu/~yadegari/expr.html There are major changes to this version: - values defined by the "value" object can now be accessed like C variables. e.g. "expr 5 + xval", will look up the value of variable 'xval' (defined by "value" object) and add 5 to it - multiple expressions, separated by semicolon, resulting in multiple outlets, can be defined in a single expr/expr~/fexpr~ object - the if() function taking 3 arguments implemented: if (condition, IfTrue-expr, IfFalse-expr) for expr~ if the condition is a vector the condition is tested sample by sample - the previous values of the multiple outputs can be accessed by $y#[idx] where <#> is the number of the expression and is the index. New shorthand notations have been added for fexpr~ to make writing filter expressions easier: $x -> $x1[0] $x# -> $x#[0] e.g., $x2 -> $x2[0] $y -> $y1[-1] $y# -> $y#[-1] e.g., $y2 -> $y2[-1] - new math functions: cbrt - cube root erf - error function erfc - complementary error function expm1 - exponential minus 1, log1p - logarithm of 1 plus isinf - is the value infinite, finite - is the value finite isnan -- is the result a nan (Not a number) copysign - copy sign of a number ldexp - multiply floating-point number by integral power of 2 imodf - get signed integral value from floating-point number modf - get signed fractional value from floating-point number drem - floating-point remainder function Thanks to Orm Finnendahl for sending in the following functions: fmod - floating-point remainder function ceil - ceiling function: smallest integral value not less than argument floor - largest integral value not greater than argument Many of these changes were made so that one could use fexpr~ for solving non-linear differential equations. The help file (help-expr.pd) includes an example of generating chaotic signals using fexpr~ and Lorenz equations.
