[PD-dev] weak linking on GNU/Linux?

On Mac OS X, Pd-extended "weak" links to the Jack framework, so it  
doesn't crash if the Jack framework is not there.  Is there a way to  
do this on GNU/Linux?  I'd like to compile Pd-extended with Jack  
support, but right now, it seems to tie the binary to a specific  
version of Jack if I do that.
