[PD] Trouble loading PD under Linux

Thanks Andy,
I'll look into ALSA .9  . Can I test to see if I'm running full duplex 
when not in PD? I should be able to just plug a sound source into line 
in and if it comes out my laptop speakers, its running full duplex??
