Most VST's should respond to a Midi clock which is a fairly simple
midi message I think so I guess the obvious thing would be to either
add a port which when "bang"ed sends a midi clock to the plugin
(allowing
non linear clocks into the bargin) or a "clock" message with much the
same effect.

have you looked at kvr-vst.com/hosts.php? a few there.
also, to thomas re: the vst~ plugin. it is excellent that somebody's
working on this! but one problem i notice is that opening the vst window
does not give the vst effect focus and/or raise it to the top of the
screen. that is a feature i miss.
also, would it be possible to give the vst plugin a command to set the
bpm? there are a few sync-to-clock effects i'd like to use...
