You probably mean Guenther, who is very involved in Demudi/Agnula, but
I can say something as well.

This weekend I attended the first Linux Audio Developers Conference in
Karlsruhe. There was a lot of talk in regard to making LA-software
easier to install on Linux, about the responsibilities of the
distribution makers and about what's already available. Unfourtunatly
I missed the talk, Andrea Glorioso from Centro Tempo Reale/Florence
gave on AGNULA, but you can listen to it and all the other talks via
http://www.ima.zkm.de/lad03/

But Andrea told me in a personal conversation (we had several), that
the Demudi team is working hard on getting another release out.
Personally I'm using Debian which is the best distribution anyway. ;)
But if you can wait a little bit, I would really recommend trying
Demudi.

But I like to have AGNULA in my list of software repositories, so it
already is a nice addition on audio software to Debian. But, well, you
all know that Debian is more a distro for a special kind of user.
Debian is for those, who do not fear a console-driven installation
process. And Debian is for thos, who want to install a system once and
just update it in the years to come. (I'm still running on my main
machine a Debian installation from 97/98, I guess, starting with
Debian 1.2)

But then, installation might be the hardest hurdle to overcome for a
novice. Because of that Planet CCRMA (pronounced "Karma" as I learned
now) might be a better way. I was really, really impressed with the
work, Fernando is doing on Planet CCRMA. You can get all the latest
audio software in one place and three commands. It's a miracle.

Suse also is nice. The do a lot of funding on ALSA, so they always
have the newest version inside. The next Suse probably won't take very
long to be released, but don't tell anyone yet.

Basically, the best description is maybe, what Joerg Nettingsmeyer,
the list admin of LAD and LAU (= Linux Audio User, you need to
subscribe there as a newbie) said: "If you install Debian, you need to
tweak it afterwards by installing a lot of the software you need. The
default install is rather small, so Debian is for the guys who know
what they want. If you install Suse, you need to twek it by
de-installing a lot of stuff and removing all the exe candy. Suse is
for the users who don't know what they want, but want to take a look
around."

ciao
