It works for me with 0.37 test something.
Are you sure it actually compiles ALSA, I vaguely recall having to edit some 
Makefiles to compile ALSA after the configure, because it refused to find 
alsa, or the check it used was not working.
If configure can't find the alsa-headers it won't compile alsa support, even 
if you do --enable-alsa. Check the config.log or the output of configure.
