[PD] a nice interface

hi ive been at pd for a small while now but Ive never looked at the
interface side of things, I have a project for and my programme is nearly
done, only problem is it looks horrible for a non pd user, 
Does anyone where I can start looking at how to apply a good interface,as in
what objects to start lookinga at?(not graphics like gem)
Im talking about just applying colours or making a message box look at bit
better?nothing extreme
