[PD] [gem] pix_film on linux

Hi all,
I'm starting to try out gem on linux, after being used to windows, and
when trying pix_film, the cpu goes to the roof, and playback is
extremely slow. There's a suspicious message on the terminal:

<ffodivx> : not using DR1 
or
<ffindeo3> : doesn't support DR1

depending on the codec used. Is this the reason for the problem and can
it be solved? If this is not the reason what can I do to optimize video
file playback?

I'm running planet CCRMA FC2, with its pd packages:
Pd version 0.37.1 devel
GEM: ver: 0.888-pre1
GEM: compiled: May 17 2004

Should I jump in and try to build gem...?
