no its not.

gem chains basically modify the state of an openGL-server (e.g. your 
gfx-card) and don't hold any data by themselves.

the openGL-server might be on the other side of the ocean.

if you want to stream frame wise, you could try gem2pdp and pidip's 
streaming facilities.
