i think that simplest would be to use alsa (start pd with "-alsa").
jack is more complicated as you need another application (the jack
daemon) to run before pd, and it doesn't really offer anything that alsa
does not offer. (which could start another flamewar) jack certainly has
its merits but for getting audio going i would start with alsa. jack
only builds on top of alsa.
