i can attest to this for sure
a G4 1GHZ with 786 MB RAM out performs a G4 1.5/1GB EASILY
ubuntu is what i chose, Yellowdog had some problem with audio and i was not interested in fooling with that. I installed the Ubuntu-Live Cd for PPC to check it out and it found everything [including with airport] right away.
Apt-get is very handy and ubuntu is very user friendly.
The only one problem i had was that my Midisport2x2 is seen ONLY as a usb-audio device :-( .
other than that highly recommended
