I guess, everyone does: A list-message (starting with "list ...") with
only one element *is* a float or a symbol, depending on the first
element. ;)

I don't use anything but "a" or "b" in a [trigger] because I like
these things to be explicit for readability etc. I rather use a [f],
[list] or [symbol] after the [trigger], because then I can better spot
any errors.
