thanks a lot. this is exactly what i was looking for.

it crashes with an old iemlib (r1.16);
it does _not_ crash with the current CVS version of iemlib.
(btw, the same happened to me this weekend: i got reproducible crashes
with [splitfilename] during the rehearsals for a concert; but i couldn't
reproduce them when i tried later on my dev-machine)

so i suggest you upgrade to the latest and greatest version of iemlib.
