[PD] pd alsamidi attaches to all midi i/o ports

I'm using pd with these arguments:
-alsamidi
-mididev 1

I'm using Pd version 0.42-3

When I start pd it connects its outputs to all available midi inputs
and its inputs to all available midi outputs.. this is a huge
annoyance, I'd prefer to have to manually connect to the one or two
destinations and sources I want, rather than have to disconnect a
large number of connections every time I start pd.  Does anyone know
if there is a way to get pd to not make these connections? [It didn't
used to do this].
