[PD] pix_grey too much grey?

Hi list,

Before I file a bug report (and since it seems strange that it hasn't 
been reported already), I though I'd check if I'm missing something:

why in the attached patch isn't the white white? That is, after 
converting with [pix_grey], white becomes a bit darker. Seems like some 
factor in the conversion is wrong.
Or am I missing something?

Is there any easy workaround?
