[PD] OT Audio Player HELP!

I can second that; I've been using mpd at home on my linux system for quite a while for doing exactly what you're asking.  There are DOZENS of different clients for it on just about every platform you can name.  I even wrote a simple one for the iPhone while learning iOS programming.
