since libquicktime (1.2.2) is fine here on debian. the problem might
come from something else, e.g. some 3rd party library lqt is using.
you should run a a test in gdb and do a backtrace:
$ gdb --args lqtplay /path/to/broken/file
(gdb) run
Segmentation faul
(gdb) bt
<snip>
...
</snip>
(gdb)
and post everything between <snip> and </snip>.
preferrably (also) to some quicktime-related bugtracker (or ubuntu's)
