i remember a poster presentation at nime 2008 about a Pd-to-C compiler.
only built-ins could be used (no externals), and i cannot remember
whether it was possible to use abstractions.
they claimed lots of speedup, but that might have been only when it
comes to plain DSP.
i never tried it myself, though.
