ok. <br>so I've been away from the machines...<br><br>if I run ./autogen.sh <br><br>both in fedora 11 and 13 and the current svn gem:<br><br>./configure moves until:<br><br>"checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c"<br>
<br>and then loops back to:<br><br>"checking whether build environment is sane... yes"<br><br>for ever...<br><br>I should mention that until recently i never used ./autogen.sh. I used instead aclocal and then autoconf and worked fine.<br>

it seems like the macros are not properly found.<br>
make sure you:<br>
- have the file "src/m4/gem.m4"<br>
(this file holds the macros you seem to be missing)<br>
- have correctly run:<br>
$ cd ..../Gem/src && ./autogen.sh<br>
before running ./configure<br>

are there any errors when running ./autogen.sh?<br>
