does your camera work with other applications (i know there are some
capture boards that only work with their own software, especially
pinnacle seems to want people to not use their products)

there is a help-file called Gem/pix_videoDS.pd; try to open that one and
see whether it works (unfortunately the object-API is a bit different
for windows/linux/osX (i want to change that in the future), so probably
it is just the movement-detection patch that does not work...)
