I think we need some more info don't you IOhannes?  There are not any
serious issues on 10.4 that prevent GEM from running that I know
about.  We are going to have to make a decision about how to build
future versions since Quicktime 7 changes just enough to be a pain,
and only QT 7 works on 10.4 (and thus the dev environment as well).
