uncommenting is a not-so-good idea.

try
~> STRIP=echo make
without(!) editing the Make.config


(or alternatively change the line "STRIP ?= strip" to "STRIP ?= echo" -- 
actually that is what i meant by "replacing the STRIP-command with 'echo'")
