is this ubuntu or debian(testing/unstable)? with nvidia drivers?
does it crash as well if you create an empty [pix_freeframe] object?
if so, you are likely experiencing a bug related to Exception-handling
and libstdc++/nvidia; using older libstdc++ helps.
