Initial Comment:

It would be handy if it was possible to open DV/ieee1394 cameras using [device X( where X is a single digit.  Also, it would be nice if [enumerate( worked on GNU/Linux.

I think this could be implemented like it is in [comport] using a glob, and assigning index numbers to the glob results.  The glob would be something like "/dev/video* and /dev/dv1394/[0-9]*". This would also make it easy to make a working [enumerate(
