Gem messages (ab)uses pointer-messages; unfortunately Pd does not  
handle pointers very well: neither [pack] nor [list] can handle  
pointers that are not data-structures.

i think the thing to do is to move away from pointers and use  
numbers/symbols instead (as ids to Gem-packages)
