this is not exactly "crashing".

anyhow, Gem and pdp are two different concepts/libraries and 
incompatible with each other.
luckily, there are bridges between the two worlds:
gem2pdp offers objects [gem2pdp], [pdp2gem] and [pix_2pdp] to convert 
from packets to pixes and vice versa.
