[GEM-dev] pix_filmQT vs pix_filmDarwin on OSX?

what's the difference between pix_filmQT and pix_filmDarwin on OSX?
it seems like pix_filmQT cannot open movie-files (here), wherease 
pix_filmDarwin works just fine.

can therefore pix_filmQT be removed entirely?
(on w32, pix_film+filmQT is used successfully anyhow; i think pix_filmQT 
originally came from the w32 implementation)
