using help patch : 
04.video/04.videoRTX.pd, it appears that pix_separator does not separate pix anymore.
(i used this patch last week with no problem)
using gem revision 4025 
(on ubuntu linux 10.04, nvidia driver)

seems like the bug was a leftover from the GemState transition.
should be fixed with rev.4028
