$ cd .../Gem
$ ./autogen.sh
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

plugins will only get build if you have the proper libraries installed.
e.g. you will need to have gmerlin-avdec-dev installed in order to get a
filmGMERLIN plugin (which will be called gem_filmGMERLIN.so)
