i don't know either, but it might hint at a bug within VLC (or some linker problem due to a special config within VLC). it would be great if you forwarded that bug to the VLC devs.

Hello,
Using VLC plugin crash Pd.
Removing the symlink solve this problem.
Can I help to enable this plugin in a patch ?
Configuration :
Ubuntu 13.04, Pd 0.44.3, Gem ver: 0.93.git 374f713.
