description:
media art has often a highly technical demand on the side of both,
software and hardware. a big issue, for artists who are working in this
field of art. the workshop aims to introduce a hard and software
environment/combination which was researched and developed by us for
several projects on a conceptional and technical level.

the target group are media artists/practitioners which are interested in
the following fields:

mobile devices, wireless communication, remote sensing and acting, inter
device and inter software communication

hard and software which are used in the workshop include:

pure data, linux, ipaq handheld, basic stamp, sensors, i.a.

the workshop is designed in a way that people get familiar with this 
kind of technical setup. It is for both, the already technical skilled
artist as well as for beginners. our approach to do so and integrate
everybody is to send out a framework proposal to the participating artists
to outline one or two project ideas which will then provide the means for
the introduction into the addressed fields.

this Framework can include following technical issues:
introduction to pure data, introduction to linux on ipaq hand held
computer, introduction to basic stamp micro controller, wireless lan and
ipaq, pure data and ipaq, basic stamp and ipaq / pure data, gps and 
ipaq / pure data, sensors and basic stamp, effectors and basic stamp,
wireless data transmission and basic stamp, pure data  for controlling
(communication to other hard and software via serial port, parallel 
port, joystick, mouse, keyboard, tcp/ip, udp, midi, osc, etc.),
physical interface design.

artists interested in participating are asked to send a short note of
motivation to rat at telecoma.net until 10th of oktober 2003.

beskrivelse:
media kunst har ofte høye tekniske krav til både program- og 
maskinvare. et viktig tema for kunstnere som arbeider i dette feltet. 
denne workshopen har som mål å introdusere et program- og 
maskinvaremiljø som ble utviklet av erich berger og martin pi. Miljøet 
har både tekniske og konseptuelle elementer.

målgruppen for workshopen er ny media kunstnere og ny media kunst 
aktører som har interesser i følgende problemstillinger:

mobile redskaper/utstyr, trådløs kommunikasjon, fjernsensorer og 
fjernhandling, kommunikasjon mellom forskjellig program og maskinvare

maskin- og programvare som brukes i workshopen er:

pure data, linux, ipaq håndholdt datamaskin, basic stamp, sensorer etc.

workshopen vil gjøre deltakerne kjent med dette tekniske systemet. den 
vil være nyttig både for de med en del teknisk kunnskap og for 
begynnere. vår tilnærming til stoffet blir å sende deltakerne et 
forslag til rammeverk som beskriver ett eller to prosjekter. disse 
prosjektene vil fungere som en inngang til problematikken.

dette Rammeverket kan inkludere følgende tekniske temaer:
introduksjon til pure data, introduksjon til linux på ipaq håndholdt 
datamaskin, introduksjon til basic stamp mikrokontroller, trådløse 
nettverk og ipaq, pure data og ipaq, basic stamp og ipaq/pure data, gps 
og ipaq/pure data, sensorer og basic stamp, effektorer og basic stamp, 
trådløs overføring og basic stamp, pure data for styring (kommunikasjon 
til annen maskin- og programvare via serieport, paralellport, joystick, 
mus, tastatur, tcp/ip, udp, midi, osc, etc.), design av fysisk 
grensesnitt.

de som ønsker å delta må sende en kort tekst om motivasjon til
