Project development and production advanced workshop

Deadline 31 March (soon!)

Workshops April 18th-30th.

http://www.medialabmadrid.org/medialab/medialab.php?l=0&a=a&i=472

The purpose of the call is a selection of a maximum of 10 projects of
digital and sound art, critical design, educational applications,
etc. for their collaborative production in an advanced workshop from
the 18th to the 30th of April 2006. Directed by: David Cuartielles,
Zachary Lieberman, Casey Reas, and Hans-Christoph Steiner.

The medialabmadrid programme of the Conde Duque Cultural Centre
issues a call for projects to be produced within the Interactives?
event during the months of April and May 2006. Interactives? proposes
a transformation of the exhibition venue into a space for production,
meeting, and debate.

The workshop focuses on hacking - hacking via open hardware, open
software
and programming - in order to create new forms and modes of
expression. The programme invites a distinguished group of developers
to work side by side with participants on advanced projects. What
ties this invited group together are their involvements in open
(hardware / software) projects which facilitate the creative process
and their commitment to education and the advancement of work in the
field. At the centre of this endeavour is an investigation of the
meaning of interactivity, on a conceptual, technological, and social
level.

Interactives? Objectives

- To deepen the use of electronic and programming tools for artists
and designers.
- To promote the collaborative production of digital and sound art,
critical design, educational applications, etc., which use
interactive technologies and are inscribed within the philosophy of
open hardware and free software.
- To create local synergies among different agents for long-term
projects.

Other Objectives:

- To dynamise the exhibition venue as a space for production, debate
and communication.
- To explore the confluence between artistic, educational and
technological practice.
- To demystify the technological through its direct use and
understanding.
- To spread knowledge through the use of open and free tools.
- To turn the exhibition venue into a meeting place for different
institutions, collectives and individuals (universities, wireless
communities, social and art collectives etc.).
- To critically review the production forms of cultural
administration and to propose a productive re-distribution of resources.
