*Jaime E. Oliver (Lima, 1979) is currently a Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow in
composition at Columbia University in New York. He obtained a PhD in
Computer Music from the University of California, San Diego (2011) where he
studied with Miller Puckette, D. Wessel, FR. Moore, P. Manoury, R. Reynolds,
among others. *
*Oliver’s music and research explores the concept of musical instrument in
electronic and computer music, designing instruments that listen,
understand, remember and respond. His open source Silent Drum and MANO
controllers
use computer vision techniques to continuously track and classify hand
gestures.*

The conference will be held @ the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico

*Jaime Oliver (Lima, 1979) obtuvo un doctorado en música por computadora de
la Universidad de California, San Diego (2011) donde estudió con M.
Puckette, D. Wessel, FR. Moore, P. Manoury, R. Reynolds, entre otros.
Actualmente es becario de la Fundación Mellon en la Universidad de Columbia
en Nueva York, donde enseña e investiga.*
*La música e investigación de Oliver, exploran el concepto de instrumento
musical en la música electrónica y por computadora, diseñando instrumentos
que observan, escuchan, entienden, recuerdan y responden. Sus controladores
de fuente abierta, el Tambor Silencioso y MANO, usan técnicas de análisis de
imagen para seguir y clasificar gestos de las manos.*
