the path is not /pd-gem but /cvsroot/pd-gem

otoh, i don't know why anonymous has to login before s/he can check out.

why not just try:

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous at cvs.gem.iem.at:/cvsroot/pd-gem checkout Gem 
GemLibs

and go?
