this is not necessarily true.
but it might be (pd's scheduler decides depending on the wiring context
of the object)

this is basically true. (you can try and check whether the input- and
output- buffer are the same (pointer comparision) and optimize accordingly.
but i think it is good practise to assume the worst (e.g: that they are
the same when you don't want them to be the same and that they are not
when you do)
