I think the CVS root changed some months ago. Could be the problem.
To fix that you would have to change the Root files in CVS subdirs to
:ext:<username>@cvs.sf.net/cvsroot/pure-data

another problem might be the setting of the CVS_RSH variable on some
linux distros. (Fedora for example).
