Having a sound file player that plays any format makes Pd more  
flexible, leading to more new and unexpected uses.   This is the  
strength of Pd: as few presumptions as possible.  If you wanted to  
build a mp3 jukebox using Pd, for example, you'd need to play mp3s  
within Pd.
