Initial Comment:

The alsa_adddev() function prototype in s_main.c is not
surrounded by an #ifdef USEAPI_ALSA, so it causes
problem when compiling without ALSA, like on Mac OS X.
 Perhaps this is due to gcc 4.0 being less tolerant to
such things.
