But a DSSI plugin is a totally seperate application from Pd! 

DSSI/LADSPA are the same as Firefox or Audacity from a Pd point of
view: Firefox or Audacity are useful pieces of software for every Pd
user as well, still we would not even think about trying to keep their
sources in our CVS or about including them in Pd-installer packages.
