sheesh. it disappeared in the last hour again, but with a different error 
message?

it was:

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages 
if any)

it's now:

ssh: connect to host cvs.sourceforge.net port 22: No route to host
cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if 
any)
