hi list,

i'm writing here and not to the users list as i suspect i might be onto some sort of bug.

on a Debian Etch, Debian Sid and an Ubuntu Dapper (Flight 6) system i am
getting repeating "tried but couldn't sync A/D/A" errors with 0.39.2-1 on an ALSA:

	$ dpkg -l | grep -i alsa
ii alsa-base 1.0.11-1 ALSA driver configuration files
ii alsa-oss 1.0.11-1 ALSA wrapper for OSS applications
ii alsa-tools 1.0.11-1 Console based ALSA utilities for specific ha

ii alsamixergui 0.9.0rc2-1-9 graphical soundcard mixer for ALSA soundcard
	ii libasound2 1.0.11-3 ALSA library
ii libasound2-dev 1.0.11-3 ALSA library development files
ii libesd-alsa0 0.2.36-3 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - Shared lib
ii libpt-plugins-alsa 1.10.0-1 Portable Windows Library Audio Plugin for th

the Ubuntu system runs 1.0.10 as does the Debian Etch system, both of which have the same issue.

even with a:

	pd -alsa -rt

i have the same output, and when using jack i also get similar errors, though not as often. regardless pd under alsa is very choppy, rendering
it unuseable.

i would assume something else was afoot, were it not for the fact that other ALSA and jack applications seem to run perfectly fine.
i'd also consider downgrading ALSA alogether but naturally this would mean downgrading numerous other ALSA applications upon which I'm pretty dependent.

Debian Sid has Kernel 2.6.16 and single sound device, Etch 2.6.12 a single sound device and Ubuntu 2.6.15 a single device also.
i've tried using 'pd -alsa -alsaadd <alsa devicename> -rt' to be sure. i've also tried a 'pd -alsa -inchannels 0 -outchannels 2 -rt' just in case on all three systems.

googling around i find only one other person with a similar issue, and that was from 2004:

any leads greatly appreciated.
