In miXed/Makefile.common, in the target define_build, there is some syntax that does not work in a strict bourne shell.  It's basically the '[[' syntax that bash uses which is invalid:

@if [[ -f build_counter && `id -un` == krzYszcz && \
   `date -r build_counter +%j` != `date +%j` ]] ; then \
