t_binbuf is only a type of resizable atom array. If you've used STL in the 
past, you may think of it as vaguely like vector<t_atom*>, plus a bunch of 
methods related to parsing and unparsing.

It's required for backwards compatibility anyway, and yes, I know what you 
mean by weird and great things.
