turning audio on, opening a gem window and plugging in headphones Pd-0.43.0-devel-20091215 and Pd-0.42.5-extended-20091222 on 10.6 will make Pd hang. See attached patch.

I am pretty sure this has been fixed by updating the portaudio code, try a
recent nightly build:
