Initial Comment:
For example, [pddp/helplink sin] and [pddp/helplink +] don't work (same for any vanilla objects that share a common help patch).  So I'm guessing helplink just takes object X and looks for X-help.pd?

Also, notice that helplink also doesn't work for objects like nbx (nor its creator name "my_number") because the name of the help patch is actually numbox2-help.pd (specified by class_sethelpsymbol).
