i had correct output using double precision samples using (iirc) ALSA
and jack, back then when i started the patch set (which eventually made
it into Pd-0.42), so that shouldn't be a problem.
looking at the code, the relevant changes are definitely there for jack;
and alsa will most likely work if it's not trying to do mmap() - if the
device does support mmap we might have problems.
