Initial Comment:
OK, I'll file this long-standing symptom and maybe something rolls out...

My problem is that none of the 0.43 installations start up properly on my system.
After startup the console says:
          ... connected
          watchdog: signaling pd...
...and the Pd window remains unresponsive.
I have purged and reinstalled Pd without any positive effect.
Notably pd-l2ork (0.42) starts up properly.
Running Pd with -noaudio -noprefs -verbose -nostartup doesn't help.
Running with -d 3 doesn't give any extra info.
