It makes a difference, but not directly what I expected. Specifying
"option add *font ::menufont" makes the font much larger. It will take
some more time before it makes sense to me.

That would be a logical next step, but probably it is a good idea to
coordinate it with Jonathan's centralized "Preferences" effort.
